Hi, I’m Helen. I’m a Chartered Physiotherapist and my career so far has spanned the NHS, private practice and elite sport. Since qualifying in 1987 I’ve helped a diverse range of patients dealing with pain and discomfort from joint, muscle, ligament and nerve conditions.

I have a special interest in upper-limb problems — treating patients with neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand conditions — and I’ve been involved in several research programmes contributing to national guidelines for shoulder care.

Elite sport experience

Over many years working in elite sport I’ve supported athletes ranging from youth teams right up to first-team international level — including rugby players, footballers, dancers and ice skaters.

How I work

I bring a compassionate and empowering approach to physiotherapy. I use the latest evidence-based treatment techniques alongside thorough rehabilitation principles, and I involve you every step of the way. My aim is to give you the knowledge and the exercises you need to maintain your health and wellbeing long after your course of physiotherapy has finished.

My clinical toolkit includes active movement, passive physiological and accessory joint mobilisations, and soft-tissue techniques to address joint and muscle dysfunction, pain and loss of movement, and to restore normal mechanics.

Qualifications

I qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from Manchester Royal Infirmary in 1987. I’m a Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP) and am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

I currently work at Back in Action on Saturday mornings.
